Codimg allows you to transcribe video content that is directly linked to your recordings. This means every piece of text is connected to a specific moment in the video making it easy to review, verify and reference clinical information.

 

This is extremely useful when extracting relevant data for debriefing sessions or professional development.

 

In this blog, we’ll show you how to use the transcription tool and give you some hints on how to use it for improved data filtering and training.

Three Ways to Generate Transcriptions

There are three main ways to create transcriptions in Codimg, depending on your workflow.

 

The first method is transcribing clips that have been tagged using a digital template, a workflow that we’re sure you are familiar with.

 

This is ideal for breaking down specific moments, such as patient interactions or key procedural steps.

 

The second method is full video transcription. This is best when you need a complete record of an entire consultation, training session or medical procedure.

 

The third method is transcribing audio files. This is especially useful for interview situations when you do not want the intrusive presence of a video camera. Simply record the interview using a phone or other recording device, import the file into Codimg and get the full interview text for use in reports, etc.

 

In all cases, the transcription is done from the Feedback Session environment.

1. Transcribing Tagged Clips

This method integrates Codimg transcriptions into the “traditional” method of observation.

 

That is, you use a digital template to tag your video, analyse the resulting video clips and data in the Codimg Timeline and send the most relevant clips to list in a feedback session.

 

You can then choose the clips from this list that you wish to transcribe.

 

To do this, select the clips (hold Ctrl whilst selecting to select multiple clips) you want to transcribe and click the Transcribe Icon.

 

 

You can edit and transcribe any individual clip. To do this, open the clip editor by double clicking any clip. From here, you can adjust the clip start and end times to your liking and start the transcription by clicking the green Transcribe button.

 

The transcription process will start and you will see a progress bar telling you how long it will take.

 

 

Once done, you can see which clips contain transcriptions in the last column of the main feedback session window.

 

To view the transcription, double click the clip and the text will appear in the clip editor.

 

 

Click any line to view the exact moment in the video when it was spoken.

2. Full Video Transcription

The second method of utilising the transcription tool is to transcribe the full video.

This method can be useful when you want to see what has been said during a session without tagging the video first.

 

This method bypasses the tagging and timeline phases and takes you straight to the feedback session where you can analyse the spoken content of the session and watch videos related to what has been said.

 

To do this, you must first open an empty feedback session. This is done by clicking on the small icon which appears when you hover over Open Feedback Session in the main menu.

 

 

When the blank session opens, the next step is to add a video for transcription. To do this, click on the Add Video icon in the tool bar.

 

 

Again, click on the Transcribe icon to begin the process.

 

 

Because you are transcribing a full video instead of short video clips, it’s likely that this process will take a few minutes, depending on the size of the video.

 

When the transcription process has ended, you can view the full transcription in the clip editor by double clicking on the video.

 

 

Again, click any line to view the exact moment in the video when it was spoken.

3. Transcribing Audio Files

This method of transcription is very similar to full video transcriptions, but in this case, you are using audio files only. Generally, this means that the process is quicker as the files are smaller.

 

To start an audio transcription, again, open a new feedback session from the main menu.

 

 

Click on the Add Video icon and, this time, choose the audio file you want to work with.

 

 

Click on the audio file in the list so that it is highlighted in green and, once again, click the Transcribe icon.

 

 

When the transcription is complete, you can view it by double clicking the file in the list.

 

Click any line of audio to hear it.

 

Note: If you can’t hear the corresponding audio, go to the Properties tab in the clip editor and ensure the Mute option is deselected.

 

 

 

Working With Transcriptions

No matter which option you use to complete the transcription, you will have the same options available when working with it.

 

 

Edit any line to correct transcription errors by double clicking the line and inputing the desired text.

 

Show or hide video times by checking the Show Times box.

 

Search for any word or phrase using the Search Bar. This will filter the text, making it easier to find the exact video clips you need.

 

Please note: The search bar is case sensitive, so if you receive no results the first time you search, try adding a capital letter to the word, or vice versa.

 

To the right of the search bar you will find the AI Summary icon. This will generate a quick summary of the transcript, revealing the key details of what happened during a session. Useful for quick reports.

 

To the right of this is the Copy Transcript icon. This will copy the full transcript to the clipboard, allowing you to paste it to external text documents.

 

The next icon over is the Export Transcript button. This allows you to export the full transcript in the .txt format which can then be imported to MS Word, Google Docs or any other word processor.

 

The last icon is used to Delete the current transcription.

 

Please note: This action cannot be undone. If you delete the current transcription, you will need to redo it.

 

All transcriptions will be automatically saved to the feedback session and can be accessed at any time.
